Hello Everyone,
My granddaughter’s school has a program that allows the younger children to purchase gifts for their parents and grandparents. It enables them to surprise the parent instead of having to go to the store with them and have them see what they are purchasing. This year, she told me ahead of time that – “good things come in small packages”. She was preparing me for the small package which was to come. She didn’t have to worry as I love whatever she gets me because it comes from her heart.
The Lord was speaking to me about what touches His heart as well. Yes, doing great and mighty things for the Lord is good, but what touches His heart is – does what we do come from our heart of love for Him? We can certainly do the great, but I think the small thing coming from a great heart of love is what touches His heart most of all. He sees the heart in all things. That’s where truth lies.
He sees through our heart, not works or ‘doings’ because some works are from duty or even pride – and some from love for Him. Love is the magnet that attracts Him. Greatness or doing great things have no effect unless done with the heart. The widow with the two mites moved His heart. Obedience done as a duty or ritual doesn’t mean as much as obedience done because of love.
It all stems from the heart. That’s what makes the difference. That’s what touches His heart – for that is where truth lies.
The small can produce the great. Sometimes the smallest thing that we do for someone makes the greatest impression. Sometimes the smallest thing can move mountains and affect a heart. It’s hard to see the small sometimes, but when we do it can result in the great. Never despise the small, for the small can grow to become the great. The greatest things leave little room for expansion and growth. See the little things. Appreciate the little things. For the littlest thing can come from the biggest heart.
That’s where truth lies.
Blessings, Evelyn
Thank you, Evelyn, for reminding us about this truth. As Valentine’s Day approaches all we see around us are hearts. The next time I see a cut out heart shape I will remember how the Lord looks only at the heart of what is done for Him whether big or small. Our heart towards the Lord and others is the truth of the matter. Such a blessing to read this gem!
Dear Linda,
Thank you for being so faithful to respond. When the Lord gave me this blog, I had no idea I would be writing this near Valentine’s Day. Thank you for your insight and seeing this – your comment just made me realize the timing of it! God is so amazing how He does everything all according to His timing. Thank you Linda!

I enjoyed reading what you shared, Evelyn. Today one of my grandsons was discussing with me what he and others are giving up as a sacrifice for Lent. Some were giving up a little, some were giving up a lot. I told him that he need not be concerned about what others are doing because his fast is between him and God and God looks upon each one’s heart. It seemed to be along the same lines of what you shared today.
After reading this I thought of all the small things mentioned in Scripture that produced enormous results: David’s stones, a few loaves and fishes, a tiny babe in a manger. And then I came to the 4′ 10″ author of this blog and WOW! Evelyn Lang puts her heart in every written or spoken word, hug and homemade treat she gives to so many. May God bless you this Valentine’s Day with an abundance from His heart, Ev.
Dear Maude,
Thank you for sharing this. How wonderful that your grandson is learning this lesson so early in life. How blessed he is so have a Grandma so in tuned with the Lord to advise and instruct him. How blessed you both are to have this open talking relationship between the two of you. Truth does lie in the heart and only the Lord really knows what is in a person’s heart.
Blessings, Evelyn
Dear Joanne,
Thank you so much. You always have such good insight and revelation relating to scripture. You “see” deeply and that is a gift and part of your calling as you guide your clients. You truly have a heart that “sees” and you are a blessing to many. Truth lies in the heart and you see hearts! Thank you for seeing mine – it means a lot.
Blessings, Evelyn
Thank you Ev, for the truthful words!
I’ve often told my friends “I have a petite girlfriend, but boy can she wallop out a great prayer!”
Yes, good things do come in small packages!!
Love, Kath
Thank you Kath for your kind words. To God be the glory! He also sees sweet hearts – and yours is one.
Blessings, Evelyn
