Hello Everyone,
It’s summer time and like most women, I change to a “lighter” purse. Lighter in color, that is. In weight, well, that’s another story. Why is it that men can only carry a wallet and have everything they need, yet we need bigger and bigger purses to fit all the “essentials” in? Depending on a lady’s age, it could be anything from an extra diaper or pacifier to reading glasses and that powder drink packet for fiber!
It seems that the bigger the purse, the more I find that I need to put in it. It’s what I call, the “Law of the Purse.” Carrying all this “stuff” can actually hurt your shoulder – but after all – we really do need it.
This got me to thinking about how the Lord is the one to hold the “purse strings.” He gives us all we need and more. He gives it freely – no strings attached! As Father God’s child, and as Jesus’ Bride, all that He has is ours. He is El Shaddai, our All Sufficient One. Why not “lighten up” and take the heaviness off our shoulders and put it on the Lord’s!
But there’s a secret that we have to learn first. We can learn from using our natural purses. In order to fit more in, you have to take some out. The more we take out, the more new things we can put in. It’s the “Law of the Purse”. The secret is to pour out.
The purse can also be our mindset. If our minds are closed or used to small thinking, not much will be able to be put into it. Small thinking, small accomplishments. However, as we let the Lord fill us, our mindset will expand to expect bigger things, to do bigger things, and so on. A small mind limits. Once we allow the Lord to fill our minds, it grows and expands so that we can be all that God intended for us to be.
When our purse is full, we can share with others. We can pour out to them what the Lord has given to us. We can bless others in substance from our physical purse, or we can bless by encouragement and wisdom from our mindset. When we pour out to others, the Lord will pour back into us, so that we will never run out.
Because, you see, it’s the “Law of the Purse”.

Wow Ev, I think it’s amazing how you took “one little purse” and filled it with “so many truths”. I’ll bet it’s because you lighten yours often! Gotta go now… I have a suitcase to empty!
Love, Kath
Dear Kath,
What a great comment! I think we all have our “suitcases” and they start out small and then they get gigantic! We don’t even realize how much baggage we have in them! I tend to get lazy at times and even though I would like to change purses, still keep the same one. Wouldn’t it be great to go smaller intead of going big, then extra large?
Blessings, Evelyn
