Hello Everyone!
The other day I was doing some grocery shopping and had some special coupons for several dollars each that I wasn’t going to use. I went about giving them away and it was such fun. I loved seeing the surprise and joy on people’s faces as they received them. I do this whenever I get these coupons.
I started to think about this and realized that this must be how the Lord feels when He gives to us. It makes Him happy to do something special – to surprise us. The question is – will we allow Him to do these things for us and receive them?
Sometimes we think it’s selfish to receive, but it isn’t. When we receive from someone, it gives them pleasure and joy to give, just like I had when I gave out those coupons. Why wouldn’t it be the same with the Lord? Then I felt the Lord say that we may not rob Him of tithes and offerings, but there are times when we do rob Him of the pleasure of giving to us! Have you ever thought of it in this way? His Word says to open our mouths wide and see if He won’t fill them.
Sometimes we even think it’s wrong to ask the Lord for something seemingly insignificant and therefore only come to Him in a crisis. Yet He loves to give to us – just to see the joy on our faces. Yes, there are truly serious things to pray about – very important things that we should not neglect. However, don’t you just love to give your child a gift – maybe even an unexpected one? Doesn’t it give you joy as well?
It’s no different with the Lord. In Chapter 8 of Lessons I learned from the Lord I write about the definition of selfishness that the Lord gave me. I think it’s appropriate to include it here. Selfishness is not sharing what we have with those in need. Selfishness has nothing to do with receiving what God wants to give to us.
