Hello Everyone!
Many blogs ago, I wrote one titled “Breakfast of Overcomers”. You can scroll down and read it if you haven’t already. It would be great if we could overcome and be done with it, but overcoming is not a one time thing!
It doesn’t matter whether you have overcome some big things or small – it’s all big when you have to overcome it! We’ve all had a lot to overcome with the enemy’s battles throughout our lives. However, here’s the victory – we’re trusting in the Lord. That’s the answer to overcoming.
To overcome doesn’t mean you have overcome all battles and will have no more – oh that it were so! Overcoming isn’t just a one time thing, for the enemy doesn’t try and then give up. Overcoming means that you place your trust in the Lord OVER the enemy’s attacks.
When the enemy attacks again – even in the same area – it doesn’t mean you failed, not at all. It means you overcame so the enemy has to try again. He tries to wear you down so you give up. In this race, it’s not the first one wins, it’s the first one loses! You see, when you give up, it means that you give up on trusting the Lord to help you take care of it.
Many people think that the Lord did not take care of the attack because the same attack comes again. Not so. There are many battles in the war. Each one needs to be overcome. Each one needs to be brought before the Lord and then trust Him. That’s the victory – trusting the Lord in every battle to keep you strong.
People sometimes give up because they think no more battles. They think that if there’s more battles, then it means they failed – or the Lord failed them. That’s exactly what the enemy wants them to think. That’s why he doesn’t give up and keeps attacking. As long as you don’t give up, you’ve overcome. His attacks are only because you’ve won and you are the Lord’s child.
Don’t worry if you keep getting attacked – worry if you don’t! Never give up!

Thank you for this meaningful article, Ev. I’ve often ponder the frequent calls to overcome and the promises of rewards for doing so in the Book of Revelation – the account of the end times. Surely it is describing the period in which we are living! And you’ve clearly described all it takes to be an overcomer: our faith in the One who overcame distance between us and His Father. I recently found a Bible commentary that confirms what you’ve written, Ev. Here is what it also concludes: “Sometimes all it takes to overcome temptation to go with the flow of the world is to ‘stand firm’ and refuse to be dragged along with it.” Keep writing, Ev!
Dear Joanne,
Thank you for your encouragement! I also appreciate you taking the time to comment, and for the confirmation. Yes it’s true that to overcome, we have to stand strong. Ephesians 6:13 says…..and having done all, to stand.

I so much appreciated this blog. It often gets discouraging when the enemy continues to attack in the same areas of my life. What you shared was personally encouraging to me. I was blessed to read that if the enemy is continuing his pursuit it is because with the help of the Lord we did overcome. For this we can be so grateful. Thank you, Evelyn. I love the gift of writing the Lord has given you to share with us.
Dear Linda,
Thank you so much for responding. Yes the enemy can be very patient and just when we think we don’t have to worry about it anymore, we let out guard down and WHAM he comes again with the same thing. It may be so long since the last time he attacked that we may even forget about it until it happens again. We can fall for these things so easily. Thank the Lord He has it all under control! We may not, but He does. We just need to run to Him and He comes to the rescue. Psalm 139 is always a comfort because we let the enemy put us under so much guilt and condemnation, thinking how could we fall for the same thing again. But God knows out hearts and everything about us. He loves us always. Praise the Lord for what He has done.
Blessings, Evelyn
Dear Ev,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I have read and re-read this blog, soaking in every word, every thought, every truth. I don’t even know how to respond — it touched me at such a deep emotional level, where words cannot speak what the heart sees and feels.
Yes, overcoming is NOT a one time thing, but sometimes I feel like it’s supposed to be and I am the cause of having to continuously be in an overcoming state. Yes, the enemy does NOT give up, but I hadn’t thought about it from this perspective. Instead, I have put blame on myself, thinking it’s because of my lack or inabilities to be successful once and for all and be done with this issue or challenge.
How often I’ve said with surprise, “I thought I was done with this. I thought I was victorious, but I guess I wasn’t — why else would it have come back? I guess I failed You again L-RD. I’m so sorry.” Other times, I have responded in surprise, saying, “L-RD, I guess I was mistaken. I thought You gave me the victory and this was over, but I guess I was wrong.” It’s only led to confusion and me questioning myself, my thoughts, and my perceptions about me, G-D, and the situation.
You presented such simple truths –” here’s the victory – we’re trusting in the Lord. That’s the answer to overcoming.” — “Overcoming means that you place your trust in the Lord OVER the enemy’s attacks.”
Oh how I needed to hear these words, to hear, ” There are many battles in the war. Each one needs to be overcome. Each one needs to be brought before the Lord and then trust Him. That’s the victory – trusting the Lord in every battle to keep you strong.” I’ve been so discouraged and confused at times, blaming myself, thinking that if I had enough strength, enough faith, enough Jesus in me, then in Him I would win the war with His first battle victory, and it would be over.
Since I was saved, there have been so many battles and on some many fronts. These last few years, it has become more intense and widespread. Yet through it all, especially when a new battle surfaces or a battle intensifies, I hear the L-RD say just two words, “TRUST ME!” Then I would answer, “Yes, L-RD, I trust you.” It wasn’t until I read your blog that I understood that was all the L-RD was asking, that was the step of overcoming the attack, that was the step to step over the enemy — that I wasn’t failing the L-RD because I was constantly on the battlefield with new or more intense old battles. Oh Evelyn, I feel so happy, so comforted, so free. I have been an overcomer because I have trusted my Jesus. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
Dear Sherry,
Thank you for encouraging me. I always pray that people will be touched by what I believe the Lord wants me to write. I am so happy that this blog spoke to your heart and gave you comfort. For where the Spirit of the Lord is – there is Liberty!
