My husband Bill and I always wanted to go to a bed and breakfast. There were several in Cape May, New Jersey that looked very nice. In the fall the houses would be decorated for the holiday, there were horse and carriage rides and quaint little shops to explore. Bill loved the ocean so that added an extra plus. We never did get there, but some of our friends just recently went. As I was thinking about this, Jesus began teaching me about His bed and breakfast.
His bed is a place of rest for us where He wraps His arms around us and gives us His love and comfort. It’s a place of peace and tranquility. It’s a place of safety where no harm can come to us. Can’t you just imagine it?
It’s also a place where He feeds us because when we are at rest, we can hear Him clearly. He fills us with good food – His Word – not junk food that leaves us feeling hungry in a short while.
However, just like with a bed and breakfast in the natural world, we have to take the time out of our busy lives to go there. We have to make the time to meet with Him and allow Him to give us His rest. So often we are running on “high gear” and can’t seem to get our spirit calm. I find it so hard to quiet my mind these days. Sometimes the cares of this world seem to make it so hard for our minds to shut off and allow Him in. Then as the Bible says in Matthew 13:7 the seed He gives us falls among the thorns.
This world is one of being fast paced, hurry up, keep up with all the activities in our lives. Yet God tells us to rest. Let’s take a time out and make a reservation at Jesus’ Bed and Breakfast!
