Hello Everyone,
Is a penny worth much? It is to someone who has nothing. If a penny is all you have, it’s everything to you. It’s valued. When you have a great amount, it takes something bigger for you to appreciate it, or be impressed by it – in order to value it.
Most all of us have been through good times and hard times, times of plenty and times of scarcity in the course of our lives. This teaches us to appreciate the little as well as the big. Even the Apostle Paul said he had learned to be content in whatever state he is in, whether much or little. (Philippians 4:11) When we’ve been through tough times, we appreciate what we have.
The Lord values every part of us – even down to the littlest hair on our heads. Even though He has everything, even though He owns the cattle on a thousand hills – everything , both great and small – is precious and valued by Him.
When we value everything and everyone, whether rich or poor – or whether we are rich or poor – then we are becoming more like Jesus. Then we hear His heart. When we learn to appreciate the very little, then He can trust us with the very big.
It says in the Bible that those that have will get more and those that have not will even lose what they have. (Matthew 13:12) We sometimes associate this with “things”. However I don’t think that this is about possessions. I think it’s more about our attitude.
If you see the blessings in the small things, you will begin to see more and more blessings – whether big or small – and you will be thankful and value them. However if you do not appreciate the blessing, you will not value it. Therefore you will lose your appreciation and thankfulness and it will be taken away. Joy will leave and nothing will satisfy you.
Is a penny worth much? It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Whatever we have could be gone in an instant. Be thankful in everything so your joy will increase more and more.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Blessings, Evelyn
Evelyn, You have such a special gift for sharing the truth of the Word of God. Thank you for reminding me that we are to be thankful for ALL things. May I take none of God’s gifts for granted. Great is His faithfulness. Happy Thanksgiving.
Dear Linda,
Thank you so much for your kind comments. I have to remind myself as well to be thankful and to see even the smallest blessings that I would normally have just pass by me without my noticing. I wonder just how many have I not noticed or given thanks for over the years – it’s probably too great to number. I pray that the Lord would keep my eyes open to see so I can always thank Him for all His goodness to me.
Blessings, Evelyn
