Hello Everyone,
Whenever my husband Bill gave me a hug, I felt such love and comfort. It was as close to heavenly love as anyone could get. We all desire hugs from those we love, and there are so many different kinds of hugs. Some are casual friendship hugs, some are family love hugs, and then there are the love hugs with our spouse that give us such comfort – the special love between two people deeply in love with one another.
Jesus, our Bridegroom, gives us hugs too. They come in different ways and forms. Have you ever desired something – just something so small you just thought it would be nice to have? Not even a need, just something you were drawn to. It may have been just a thought in the depths of your heart once or twice. Then suddenly, to your surprise, it was given to you. That’s a heavenly hug!
The other day I heard of a book about heaven that I really wanted to read titled, Heaven is for Real. I really wanted that book deep in my heart, but I couldn’t get it for a while. Then just a few days later, at church on Sunday, I was introduced to a lovely lady. It was one of those divine connections. As we talked, I knew that it was the beginning of a new friendship in the Lord. She told me about a book she was going to give to a friend that didn’t make it that day. When she took it out to show me, it was – THE BOOK!!! Then she gave it to me! That certainly was one of those heavenly hugs from Jesus working through my new friend.
I was so blessed by the gift of that book. It made me wonder how many times the Lord wanted to use me to give a heavenly hug, yet I didn’t take His cue. I wonder how many times I “missed” it?
It also made me think back on all the heavenly hugs I received the past few months. Some came from friends and some came from store gift cards in the mail that allowed me to buy something I desired, but was more of a luxury than a need. One big hug I received recently was from my church, Beth Israel, in the form of a fruit basket. Others were from friends, who at a last minute request, dropped what they were doing to take me to see my father in the hospital. Or the friends that called to talk to me after he went to be with the Lord – just because they knew I needed to talk. These were hugs – and needed ones.
I also think of my neighbors who took care of my driveway when it snowed, and the ones who offered help. Neighbors who helped me with the lawn on very hot days, or came to chop up some trees that needed to come down – without asking anything in return. These are heavenly hugs that mean so much. There have been many more. I pray that I will be “tuned in” to the Lord the next time He wants me to pass on a heavenly hug from Him.
I received many hugs from my children who took the time to help me with advice and just being there for me. My daughter would listen when I just needed to talk and my son gave me good advice and a hug by doing a copyright for me. They are and always have been such a blessing to me and their Dad.
May God bless you with a heavenly hug today – and use you to pass one on!
Blessings, Evelyn
